Trauma‑informed therapy integrating mind, body, and meaning
Embodied Psychology Practice provides evidence‑based psychological therapy for adults and adolescents experiencing trauma, anxiety, depression, emotional regulation difficulties, and complex life stressors.
Our approach recognises that psychological distress is shaped by lived experience and is often held not only in thoughts and emotions, but also in the nervous system and body. Therapy is tailored to the individual and supports both symptom reduction and deeper, sustainable change.
We draw on Medicare‑recognised therapies including Schema Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), delivered within a trauma‑informed and neuro‑affirming framework.
At Embodied Psychology Practice, we believe healing occurs when people feel safe, understood, and supported to reconnect with themselves. Therapy is not about fixing what is broken, but about understanding how difficulties developed and supporting meaningful, embodied change.
Our work is grounded in:
Trauma‑informed, evidence‑based practice
Respect for neurodiversity and lived experience
Collaborative, goal‑directed therapy
Supporting psychological insight alongside nervous system regulation
Psychological therapy is available for:
Anxiety disorders
Mood disorders
Trauma‑ and stressor‑related disorders
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Emotional regulation difficulties
Neurodevelopmental differences
Services are available via GP referral or self‑referral, depending on funding pathway.
Therapy modalities
Trauma can result from single events or from repeated or chronic experiences, particularly those occurring within relationships or during early development. Trauma may contribute to anxiety, depression, emotional dysregulation, difficulties with self‑worth, relational challenges, and physical symptoms such as tension or hyperarousal.
Trauma‑focused therapy aims to:
Reduce trauma‑related symptoms
Support safe processing of traumatic memories
Improve emotional regulation and sense of safety
Address longstanding patterns shaped by early experiences
Therapy is paced carefully and collaboratively, with a strong emphasis on consent, stabilisation, and client readiness.
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence‑based therapy recommended for the treatment of trauma and post‑traumatic stress. EMDR supports the brain’s natural capacity to process distressing memories so they no longer trigger the same emotional or physiological response.
EMDR may be helpful for:
Single‑incident trauma
Complex or developmental trauma
Distressing memories, images, or nightmares
Trauma‑related anxiety or emotional reactivity
EMDR is offered as part of a broader trauma‑informed treatment plan and only when clinically appropriate.
Embodied Psychology Practice provides affirming psychological support for neurodivergent individuals, including autistic people and those with ADHD.
We recognise that distress often arises from environmental mismatch, unmet needs, and cumulative stress rather than from neurodivergence itself. Therapy is adapted to individual communication styles, sensory needs, and cognitive preferences.
Focus areas may include burnout, trauma, emotional regulation, identity, self‑understanding, and navigating relationships and systems.
